I want to thank you for signing up to participate in this year’s AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run!
AID Atlanta. the producer of the Walk, is one of the country’s oldest and most effective organizations in the battle against AIDS—which has raged on for nearly 36 years. I know firsthand our work in combatting this epidemicis not over.
The goal for AID Atlanta in the years ahead is simple; continue working to increase the number of Georgians who are aware of their HIV status; provide the multitude of services needed to keep those living with HIV/AIDS connected with healthcare providers; and continue the public conversation about HIV needed to reduce the stigma and discrimination that is still so closely associated with this disease.
This work will not happen without your support. The Walk is the South- East’s largest public opportunity to raise awareness and critical funds for HIV and AIDS. By participating, you play a leading role in our success. We need the whole community to come together— ask your friends and family to walk with you and support your fundraising—it’s that important.
Your efforts make it possible for us to:
- Test thousands of people each year for HIV
- Provide life-saving prevention and wellness services to many of those in Georgia living with a diagnosis of HIV (this includes medical referrals; case management; housing and rental assis- tance; legal advocacy; mental health counseling; and peer support)
- Reach out to those most vulnerable to HIV infection, such as Black and Latina women, gay and bisexual men, transgender women, injection drug users, and homeless youth
- Advocate for fair and effective HIV/AIDS policies at the city, state, and federal levels
I am honored to lead AIDS Walk Atlanta& 5K Run, and am so grateful for
your support. I can’t wait to see you at the AIDS Walk this October!
